The city of Port Blair, also known as Emerald Islands, is on the east coast of South Andaman Island. You can reach Port Blair from Kolkata, Chennai and Vishakhapatnam. Named after Lieutenant Archibald Blair, this exquisite island was closely associated with the Indian Independence struggle. The famous Cellular Jail is located in Port Blair itself. Port Blair was also the headquarters of Subhash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army.

The islands are a treasure house of marine life that thrives in the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal. Port Blair was made popular by the Hawaii-born musician, filmmaker, and surfer Jack Johnson's song Holes to Heaven that describes his surf trip here.

  • Fishing and tourism are the main economies of the city.
  • The climate of Port Blair is moist and humid.
  • The average temperature ranges from 22ºC to 35ºC in summers and from 10ºC to 15ºC in winters.
